Mt. Longido Climb
Dates: 19th – 21st May 2017
• Difficulty: Moderate with Steep Ridges
• Altitude: 2550 AMSL
• Trekking Time: 6 hours
The Longido summit with a sheer rock face taunts any hiker who dares to drive by the Namanga border town towards Arusha. With a border to cross the team will leave Nairobi on Saturday 8th in the afternoon after 1pm (Please note that there will be some people attempting Namanga Hills. You will meet them in Namanga). We will clear with the border and head to the foothills of the mountain just outside Longido town to camp for the night. The Maasai countryside will provide a great camping atmosphere for the night.
We will leave the campsite early in the morning and follow narrow footpaths through a dense natural forest. After three hours you will be at the marvellous DAWA YA SUPU (medicine soup) view point. From this point, we will follow trails created by buffaloes to reach the top in another two hours climb.
The views from the top are surreal. The 360 degrees panoramic views of the surrounding plains are to die for! On clear days you can see places further than 200km including the nearby Namanga Hills, Mount Meru, Lengai and Kilimanjaro. Descend to base camp and set out for Nairobi to reach later in the evening.
