Ruma national park is about 45 minutes from Homa Bay. It is home to the rare Roan antelope and also renowned for the rare intra-African migrant, the blue swallow bird. The main attractions are:
· The Roan Antelope ( Korongo in Swahili): One of Africa’s’ rarest antelopes and the third largest of Kenya’s antelopes. Roans live in herds of up to 20 members, led by a bull.
· The Oribi Antelope (Taya in Swahili) : It is a small and graceful antelope living in strongly bonded pairs or small groups.
· Other dominant animals in this park are leopards, buffaloes, hyenas, Rothschild giraffes,Impalas, bohor reedbucks, serval cats, topis, baboons, vervet monkeys, honey badgers and bush pigs and several bird species
