Background:

Nanyuki Cottage Hospital (NCH), in Nanyuki Kenya, is a non-profit private charity, with 50 in-patient beds, an operating theatre, laboratory, radiography department, and pharmacy. Widely recognized as the leading healthcare provider in the region, the hospital offers general out-patient medical services, as well as antiretroviral therapy, family planning, maternity and pediatric services, HIV counseling, dental services, and immunization. The hospital also hosts a frail care facility and sheltered housing.

Terms of Reference

  1. Ensure the highest standards of patient care for all patients attending/admitted in the hospital.
  2. Ensures that patients attending Out-Patient areas are reviewed as appropriate; appropriate history and clinical examination, investigations (e.g. CXR, ECG, Lab work-up), procedural activity (e.g. blood cultures, IV cannulations and infusions, catheterisation), prescribing drug therapies or other appropriate services including physiotherapy, dietician, etc., ensure that there are detailed notes in medical records including proper documentation and discharge summaries, where appropriate eg transfers, convalescence, rehabilitation.
  3. Respond immediately to clinical emergencies and lead the resuscitation team during emergency situations. Undertake emergency investigations and procedures in accordance with hospital policies and protocols and/or as directed by the patient’s consultant. Ensures that emergency equipment, supplies and medications are available and maintained at all clinic sites.
  4. Provide a continuous on-site medical support service to meet the needs of patients, consultants and nursing staff. This includes emergency procedures and providing a general service to all clinical areas. Coordinate treatment & diet planning for patients and ensure proper implementation of the same. Undertake continuous evaluation of patient’s response to plan of care and modify as needed, providing patient/family counseling and education.

Person Specification:

Qualifications, Skills & Essential Experience:

  • Completed a degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized academic institution.

  • Be a registered member of the Kenya Medical and Dentists Board and possess a valid practicing license.

  • Minimum 2 years ‘experience post internship in a busy Hospital facility.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively contributing to a collegial team environment;

  • Proactive with a meticulous eye for detail and must be able to perform assigned duties with attention to detail, speed, accuracy, follow-through, courtesy, cooperativeness and work well with limited supervision.
