Roles and responsibilities Increasing the reach and impact of ALN and AKI’s profile and visibility through the delivery of high value and influential marketing, communications remains a priority for the firm. The suitable candidate for this role will work under the Head of Business Development (BD) and closely with the team members in the BD department to champion the marketing and communications strategy across a range of proactive, reactive and strategically planned opportunities in print, media, events and online. The role will report to the Head of Business Development. The position will champion the preparation of content for digital marketing, dissemination of mailings as well as preparing communications and marketing material. In more detail, the areas of responsibility include: Marketing and Communications Developing and delivering creative marketing and communication strategies, plans and approaches to help market and position ALN & AKI competitively in the market. Designing and developing creative communication and marketing products – presentations, briefings, etc. that will maximise ALN’s and AKI’s brand presence. Planning and implementing direct marketing approaches including targeting, personalising messages and measurability; data analysis, customer profiling and segmentation. Supporting the Head of Business Development in developing a digital strategy for Business Development. Working with the digital marketing team on content creation and updating for digital media, including intranet, website and social media. Working on regular internal and external mailings and ensuring timely dissemination, as well as ensuring that target audience is adequate. Preparing newsletters, marketing brochures and other marketing materials. Working on advertisements, invitations, and other designs with the graphic designer. Working with the team to maintain internal databases, including the Intranet, conferences publication charts. Supporting the Events Deputy Manager on event logistics and marketing as necessary both pre, during and post-event, including marketing, communications, handling of speakers, venue, invites, registrations, RSVPs, and any other relevant arrangements. Maintaining the events calendar and updating ALN and AKI as appropriate. Collaborating with the Events Deputy Manager in organising marketing trips for the partners. Liaising with vendors on collateral and branded products. Supervising varied administrative work, including raising of purchase orders. Staff Management Operational management of a small team as maybe directed by the Head of the department. Inspiring, motivating and supporting staff so that they are thinking and acting at their best, delivering high quality work, working as an effective team and meeting organisational and individual objectives. Supporting the professional development of the team to continuously develop skills and expertise and support career development aspirations. Coordinating (and in some cases managing) the work of external communication consultants and identify new consultants with additional expertise. The role will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, with travel within and outside East Africa. Experience and personal qualities This role will require a high calibre and experienced marketing and communications professional with the highest levels of ambition and commitment. The following experience is preferred: Degree qualification (preferably in Marketing, Media, Communications or Journalism). Masters qualification (preferably in Marketing, Media, Communications or Journalism) will be an added advantage. Have an excellent understanding of how to use marketing tools and techniques to increase the visibility, profile and reputation of an organisation. Good understanding of the legal profession is an advantage. Have a good understanding of social media and the impact technology is having on communications and collaboration Experience of developing and managing strong and complex relationships across countries as part of a centralised function and externally with multiple stakeholders. Experience of working in international organisations. Experience of measuring the impact of communications products and changing strategies as a result of the findings. Excellent project management skills Proficient in the use of IT Systems including Microsoft Office packages Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly with a range of people from diverse backgrounds. A minimum of at least five (5) years of relevant work experience. The following personal qualities are preferred: A strategic and creative thinker with proven experience of working on diverse and wide ranging communication strategies including all forms of media. Strong management and leadership skills demonstrated by evidence of leading high performing teams that contribute to organisational objectives. The ability to multi-task in a complex and demanding environment. The ability to build and maintain highly effective working relationships with a range of people (both internally and externally). Strong attention to detail, and excellent time management skills. A commitment to team-work and working in a professional manner. Enthusiastic, diplomatic and calm under pressure. Ability to develop creative ideas and transform them into practical reality. Action-orientated, entrepreneurial and innovative. A commitment to A&K’s mission and strong ethical integrity.
