Description

This is the only grass that grows under shade(shade grass)
How Zimbabwe grass looks
Zimbabwe grass is lime green in color. It forms thick stolons that creep on the surface and these grow rapidly. The leaves are wide and the size is similar to those of Paspallum. However, unlike Paspalum, Zimbabwe grass leaves are softer and less sharp. One is unlikely to get a scratch from Zimbabwe grass leaves. When the grass grows such that there are spaces between grass clusters, the stolons creep more and can be seen on the surface. However, when the grass grows tightly, one is unlikely to find the stolons on the surface.Typically, Zimbabwe grass leaves have a little fold at the end and are not as sharp as those of paspallum.
Zimbabwe grass as a shade tolerant grass
Zimbabwe grass has one major strength; shade tolerance. This makes the grass indispensable to landscapers and gardeners because it grows very well even in shaded conditions. This does not however mean that the grass will not grow in full sun. Zimbabwe grass has an excellent performance in the sun and can be used on sun-exposed lawns and grounds.
Mowing Zimbabwe grass
To keep Zimbabwe grass growing well, one needs to constantly mow it. This greatly improves the surface and ensures that the grass grows very tightly. Mowing therefore does not only achieve the function of reducing the grass height, it makes the lawn tight too and improves the manicured appearance.
Fertilizing Zimbabwe grass
For best performance, Zimbabwe grass requires proper nutrition. Organic manure is an excellent starter in a garden or during landscaping and should always be used. However for an aged lawn, application of manure can be difficult. Liquid fertilizers whether organic or inorganic can be used for Zimbabwe grass nutrition. It is advisable to consult agronomists or landscaping professionals for advise. They will give advice to ensure that the grass gets the full range of nutrients i.e N,P,K, Ca and Mg as well as the micro-nutrients Fe, Mn, Bo, Cu, Zn and Molybdenum.
