If you have been looking for efficient internet in Kenya you must have stumbled across the rumors on Starlink internet service which is from SpaceX headed by Elon Musk. On September 26, 2024, Starlink went a step further following the launch of its now more affordable Starlink Mini package.

The Mini Starlink is small and portable, covering up to 112 square meters and it’s recommended for basic internet applications whereas the Standard covers up to 297 square meters, and can endure extreme weather conditions, making it perfect for gamers and video streamers. The Mini Package has a range of connectivity supporting up to 128 devices while the Standard supports up to 235 devices.

The impressive thing about the Mini is its integrated WiFi network that eases the setup process in comparison to the standard kit that needs a separate router.

Flexible Payment Options

If you found the initial setup cost expensive then you’re in luck as Starlink has introduced flexible payment options, and you can even rent it out.

Starlink has announced that the mini kit will cost Ksh 27000, and monthly packages start from as low as Ksh. 1300. At the beginning, the Starlink Kit cost Ksh 74000, but the price has since gone down. At the beginning of this year, Starlink announced that the costs of the hardware would be reduced to as low as Ksh. 39500. Then last month, they came up with another deal of selling the kit for Ksh. 29000.

The satellite ISP introduced a rental kit option in Kenya last month and customers get to pay a one-time activation fee of Ksh 2700. After that, one will be required to pay a monthly rental fee of Ksh 1950. The company plans to start at Ksh.1,300 a month for a 50 GB monthly data plan. Customers still get the same internet speeds of up to 200Mbps.

The Starlink Mini kit marks a significant milestone of making high-speed internet accessible to more Kenyans. As consumers, you can now look forward to better services and pricing options from the key competitors like Safaricom.
