Job Scope

Overview of Job Purpose

The ideal candidate must be able to comprehend the current business environment of the organization and contribute workable solutions at both Management level and at Board level.

The incumbent of the position will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, risk assessment and management, financial data capturing and manipulation to generate financial reports, as well as ensure compliance with the statutory agencies in consultation with management. He/she will also be responsible over the Human Resource, IT and Office Administration functions of the Company.

The ideal candidate must be willing to work in a challenging environment occasioned by tight cash flows, and have proven ability to manage and allocate funds between competing departments. He/she will also be expected to lead the team in managing various accounts payable including scheduling regular meetings with creditors as well as regularly communicating on progress of their payments.

Finance Role

  • Monitor the internal control systems, consult with management on the adequacy and/or need for reviewing the existing policies and systems;
  • Consequently establish appropriate accounting policies, procedures and controls to enable an efficient and effective accounting system that can stand a test of integrity;
  • Manage all aspects of the Finance function including General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Accounts receivable, petty cash, bank reconciliations etc.;
  • Prepare and present timely and accurate daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports to management;
  • Responsible for the overall annual company budgets and quarterly forecasts preparation, monitoring and reporting;
  • Review and track project cost performance by conducting cost analysis for each vote head, monitor variance from plan, and highlight potential issues on a weekly basis;
  • Implement internal controls to protect and safeguard company’s assets;
  • Ensures that taxes and other payments are accurately computed and remitted in a timely manner to all government agencies;
  • Ensure effective and efficient utilization of company resources through good monitoring documentation and reporting and liaison with the external auditors;
  • Prepare cash flow projections and maintain adequate cash flow through effective and efficient debt;
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, bankers, insurers and statutory bodies;
  • Stay up-to-date with current financial regulations, including tax liabilities;
  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives by formulating corporate governance policies;
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans;
  • Supports development of financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; developing action plans;
  • Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing monthly financial reports to ensure accuracy and identify any inconsistencies; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances;
  • Reports financial status by developing forecasts; reporting results; analyzing variances; developing improvements;
  • Manage budgeting process and control expenditures to be in line with the allocated budget;
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the senior management team;
  • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team;
  • Implement operational best practices;
  • Oversee the issuance of financial information;
  • Oversee external audit has been undertaken;
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies;
  • Oversee formulation of finance policies and procedures;
  • Review and strengthen internal control; and
  • Ensure the selection of appropriately skilled staff to positions.

Administrative Role

  • Supervise the Human Resources officer and provide guidance on various HR matters;
  • Liaise with other departmental heads on staffing requirements, staff discipline, and exit management;
  • Supervise the administration officer and ensure office supplies and other administrative functions are handled efficiently;
  • Supervise the IT Officer and take overall responsibility for ensuring security and integrity of data and IT infrastructure;
  • Participate and take a lead on team leadership and mentorship.

Requirements for the job

Qualifications (Academic)

  • Undergraduate degree in business related field; and
  • Master's degree in accounting or business administration will be an added advantage.


  • Professional qualification i.e. CPA (K) or ACCA


  • 5 years in a finance function, with 2 years in a senior managerial role.


  • Strong qualitative and analytical skills;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses;
  • Experience in handling HR matters including hiring, termination, promotion and discipline;
  • Experience in handling office administrative tasks and managing an admin team;
  • Experience in handling IT systems and ability to interrogate IT related matters;
  • Strong and effective reporting skills using MS Excel;
  • Effective and proven negotiation skills;
  • Good organization skills;

This is a senior position requiring a mature person who is able to lead and motivate the team into delivery of results.
